The first step of any Invisalign treatment is an in-office consultation. This appointment allows your dentist to study your teeth, examine the health of your gums and jaw structure, and determine whether Invisalign is a good fit for you. If you have a severe bite issue, crowding or spacing problem or aren’t a candidate for Invisalign, your dentist can talk through other teeth straightening options to achieve the smile you desire.
If you braces to move forward with Invisalign, your dentist will then create a detailed treatment plan based on your specific needs and desired results. They will use advanced imaging software to create a 3D digital model of your teeth, allowing them to visualise the movement required and ensure your teeth are straightened as planned.
What to Expect When You Start Invisalign Treatment
Next, your dentist will take digital impressions of your teeth to make custom Invisalign aligners that fit perfectly on your teeth. These aligners are designed to apply gradual pressure on your teeth, slowly shifting them into their correct positions. You’ll wear each set of aligners for about 1-2 weeks before moving on to the next in the series. You’ll visit Baker Cosmetic & Family Dentistry about once every 6-8 weeks for a progress check. At these appointments, we’ll review your current alignment and may request new digital scans to see if your teeth are moving as expected.
If you’re following your treatment plan, your teeth should be significantly closer to their final positions after each progression appointment. Once you’ve completed the entire series of aligners, we’ll conduct a final exam to ensure your teeth are properly straightened and meet your expectations. Then we’ll provide you with a retainer to help keep your teeth in their newly straightened position, preventing them from drifting back to their original positions over time.
